Coach everyone like it matters
Whether you are chasing a 500 pound deadlift or your first pushup, the coaching on your set is the same. Standards do not bend because the goal is small.
Home / About Us
Hewn opened its doors in 2014 with eleven members and a landlord who thought we would not last the year. Twelve years later the waitlist is gone but the floor is still full.

Our story
Marcus and Dana opened Hewn after years of watching big box gyms sign people up and then forget they existed. The idea was simple. One floor, honest equipment, coaches who watch every set, and prices posted on the wall so nobody has to sit through a pitch to learn them.
The first winter was quiet enough that we repainted the walls ourselves. By the second summer the 6 am crew had filled the rack schedule and we broke through into the unit next door for the turf zone. The pool came later, in 2019, when the building beside us finally sold.
What has not changed is the rule we started with. Coach everyone like they are training for something that matters, because they are. It might be a competition, a new knee, or just being able to lift their kid without wincing. All of it counts here.

What we hold to
Whether you are chasing a 500 pound deadlift or your first pushup, the coaching on your set is the same. Standards do not bend because the goal is small.
Members train together, hold seats at the coffee bar, and notice when you miss a week. That is worth more than any discount we could run.
The heaviest lift in the building does not matter as much as the one done with intent. We care that you worked, not what you loaded.
Rerack the plates, wipe the bench, say hi to the new face. The culture of a gym is just a thousand small habits repeated daily.
Who is watching your form

Head Strength Coach
Fifteen years under the bar and a CSCS to show for it. Marcus runs our strength program and has coached four lifters to national platform totals.

HIIT and Conditioning
Former college sprinter turned conditioning coach. Dana builds intervals that hurt just enough and keeps the whole room coming back for more.

Boxing Coach
Eighteen fights as an amateur, ten years on the pads. Andre teaches boxing the honest way, footwork first, power later.

Yoga and Mobility
Priya spent six years teaching in Mumbai before joining us. Her classes are built for lifters with tight hips and stiffer opinions about stretching.
